So in the past couple days Blizzard has made a number of announcements. The first were a series of pretty significant Diablo 3 changes. The second was the announcement of what is essentially a return of the ‘Blizzard Worldwide Invitational’. The third is the announcement of Blizzcon being postponed to 2013. I wanted to give my take on each of these, since the world of the internet is exploding with rage, speculation, wonder, and other emotions that can only be described as ‘WTF Mate?’. Nintendo has every reason to be confident. Let’s just take a look at some of their accomplishments… the Nintendo and Super Nintendo were the first really well known gaming systems. Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Samus are some of the most recognizable figures in gaming through the ages. The Wii is the second best selling gaming console of all time, the DS is the best selling handheld of all time, and the 3DS is starting to take off as well. They took an idea that people scoffed them for – the wii – and turned it into an unbelievable success. They have every reason to be absolutely and utterly confident in their success.

Sounds like I’ve gone crazy to even think that if you look at the internet – we’re always raging about this, whining about that, or flaming some poor innocent developer about something else. But I think most of that is just because we like to complain… deep down inside, is it possible we’re being just a little too forgiving of game developers? (continue reading…)
